Blood on the Clocktower is the most sophisticated social deduction game I run. If Werewolf is the foundation of the genre, Clocktower is the cathedral built on top of it.

Under the hood, it is a complex game. As Storyteller, I am tracking every role, managing information flow, and making dozens of decisions that shape the game without anyone noticing. But that complexity is entirely mine to carry. For the players, the experience is simpler: talk to people, figure out who to trust, and vote.

No prior experience required.

What makes it different

Every player has a secret role with a unique ability. Some roles give you information. Some let you act at night. Some protect, deceive, or manipulate — and you will not know which is which until the game is over.

Crucially: information in this game can be false. Some roles receive incorrect information as part of their character. This means you cannot simply take what someone tells you at face value — you have to reason about whether they are telling the truth, genuinely mistaken, or lying through their teeth.

Dead players can still vote. The Demon wins by surviving; the Town wins by executing the Demon. The tension builds across the full session in a way that shorter games cannot match.

What players actually do

You talk. You share what you know (or claim to know). You listen carefully to what other people say and notice when something doesn’t add up. You make accusations, defend yourself, form alliances, and occasionally realise that the person you trusted most is the reason you are losing.

The Storyteller — me — handles everything else. Setup, role distribution, night phases, tracking, rulings. Players never need to manage the mechanics.

Who it’s for

Blood on the Clocktower works brilliantly for groups who want to be genuinely absorbed for an evening. It does not require gaming experience — it requires the willingness to pay attention and get involved.

It works especially well for:

  • Groups of friends who want something with more depth than a quick round of Werewolf
  • Hen and stag events looking for a centrepiece activity that people will talk about
  • Any group of 8 or more who wants a proper shared experience

What I bring

  • Full game facilitation as Storyteller
  • All materials and role cards
  • Grimoire (the Storyteller’s tracking tool)
  • Session management including setup, night phases, and debrief
